Flamenco with it’s passionate combination of music, dance and meaningful
words, is considered to be Spain’s folklore music. It is certainly part
of the culture and life-blood of Spain with participants ranging from the
tiny toddlers through to the
eldest members of the family.
There are about 30 varieties of Flamenco ranging from the cante jondo
(deep song) to the duende (demon or elf) which is often considered as the ideal in flamenco.

The origins of Flamenco date back as far as the
16th century to the gypsies of Andalucia who developed this
entertainment around their campfires.
There is no denying that Flamenco
music comes from the soul and each song tells a story of it’s own. The
stories told are not just about love but range from history, life’s
journeys and sufferings through to
politics, often reflecting the sufferings endured by the gypsy people
themselves.

One way to experience Flamenco is to
visit one of the thousands of 'fiestas' or 'ferias' held throughout
Spain. Many include wonderful Flamenco displays of both music and dance.
Equally, as nearly all Spanish people participate 100% in the '
ferias', most will be dressed accordingly and a wonderful time will
be had by all!

Flamenco that coastal tourists
are presented with can
sometimes vary slightly from the true form of Flamenco. Nevertheless they
are presented with an excellent show with wonderful
music, dance and costumes, all of which create everlasting memories of
having sampled the true taste of Spain.
